Dylan Thorn is an offensive and defensive lineman for the Desert High School football team. I asked Dylan, if he was surprised that not a lot of boys signed up for football this season. He responded with, “not surprised at all because the former head coach left, most of the former players had switched schools, mainly seniors.” Dylan thinks having a smaller team definitely has its pros and cons sometimes. A pro being everyone gets more playing time than past years regardless of skill. A con being if a player gets injured then the other players have to be careful not to get injured also.
In Dylan’s opinion the team could definitely improve by taking practice more seriously than they normally do, pay more attention, and realize that football isn’t just one person playing it’s about the team working together and doing the best they can. I asked Dylan if the coaching is different with the new coach and do you guys still do the same thing. Dylan replied, “the coaching is similar, we have one of our old coaches as our head coach so we do similar plays and exercises”. Dylan doesn’t think the season would have been different if they had more players but, perhaps if the other players put in more work into the game.
His favorite thing about football is the contact, it’s a great feeling when you nail another player and they completely collapse. Playing football in high school is where Dylan wants to leave it, he doesn’t want to pursue the football life going into college. Even though he loves the sport and enjoys bonding with the guys. Dylan wants to do something that will do good towards his country.
